A soloist is not a team player; they are focused on their own success, disregarding the needs of others, pursuing their goals regardless of the whole. This is the case when commentators speak about soloists in a football match. However, a soloist is also someone who masters their instrument perfectly, who stands before the orchestra and, through their diligence, artistry, and professionalism, supports the performance of all others. They are those who venture into the unknown, who rely solely on themselves and know that they will pay for their mistakes alone. A soloist can be a ruthless egotist as well as a selfless helper to others. Soloists encompass the richness of human existence, just as we found it among all participants in our research. Therefore, in the text of the presented book, we speak not only about people living independently, those in single-person households, communication partners, participants, etc., but also about soloists. They are individuals who form an independent economic unit (household) and do not share their intimate space long-term with any other person and are childless. Between 2013 and 2014, we conducted interviews with a total of 27 people, and we were interested in whether and how those who do not create their home with anyone else and for no one else create, modify, and appropriate their 'home.'
