The publication offers an overview of the effects of the city's sound environment on our everyday experiences. It analyzes two main research approaches to studying the sound environment - the traditional 'noise' approach and the tradition based on the concept of soundscape. It also presents two original studies focused on the qualitative analysis of experiential meanings associated with real urban soundscapes, and within them introduces a specific methodology based on the originally psychotherapeutic technique of Eugene T. Gendlin known as focusing.
