Beschreibung
While the first trams were appearing in Liberec at the end of the nineteenth century, in Brazil, immigrants were building nests in trees to survive in the jungle. Their story is a Czech, German, and Brazilian story. It tells not only of the tenacious struggle to conquer the wilderness, overcome toil and wars, but also of the awe of a new world. Young Czech German Hans builds a nest and at night sets off on somnambulistic wanderings through the jungle. He encounters an ancient Indian woman, Jesuits, botanists, and wandering killers. In his journey through the unknown, he must constantly transform to outsmart fate. His journey is that of many Czech Germans who still live in southern Brazil – they come from Liberec, speak Portuguese and German, and are convinced that they are Czechs. They call themselves bohemians.
