In a remote village in Šumava at the end of the sixties, a young man seeks refuge from a past that haunts him more than he admits. He arrives at relatives' in a landscape where time seems to have stopped, and where the daily struggle with harsh living conditions reveals deeper layers of human nature. The novel echoes the tradition of psychological realism with a civil existential dimension – reminiscent of Dostoevsky and Jaroslav Havlíček. The fate of the place plays a significant role here, the shadow of present danger, quiet animistic belief, and the rawness that thrives beneath the surface.
