Beschreibung
Years is a novel by Virginia Woolf published in 1937, the last one released during her lifetime. It follows the history of the Pargiter family from the 1880s to the mid-1930s. Although the author captures such a long period, the prose is not overly extensive; the narrative focuses more on the small details of the characters' lives. The novel, translated by Zuzana Mayerová, is being published in Czech for the very first time.
...I think it will be something amazing. I must be open, brave. I want to capture the entire contemporary society, leaving nothing out: to describe facts as well as visions. And to connect them together... Is that even possible? ... How to achieve depth and not get stuck in immobility? But I enjoy overcoming these obstacles, and in nature, there is a fresh breeze and strength. My goal is to encompass infinite breadth, infinite intensity. There should be satire, comedy, poetry, prose – how to combine all of this together? What about drama, letters, poems? ... And in the end, everything continues on with ordinary everyday life. I want to include millions of thoughts, but it must not be a sermon – reflections on history, politics, feminism, art, literature – in short, a summary of everything I know, feel, what makes me laugh, what I despise, what I love, admire, and hate...
