Beschreibung
One of the most popular American post-war novels by a classic of modern literature. The story told by seventeen-year-old Holden Caulfield is essentially a description of just under three days of his journey home (after leaving Pencey Prep) through pre-Christmas New York, during which Holden confronts a number of people (classmates, girls from Seattle, a prostitute and her pimp, parents, a teacher...). More than a journey through space, this trip is more of a journey from innocence to knowledge, from self-ignorance to self-awareness, from isolation to a sense of belonging to the surrounding world. The dark humor with which this world is viewed is one of the weapons against it: a person who cannot laugh at the world will soon be consumed by its despair.
