Beschreibung
A gripping, intimate story begins with the funeral of the mother with whom the main character, Adelaida, spent her entire life and to whom she shared a strong emotional bond. A single, childless, lonely forty-year-old suddenly finds herself completely alone. To make matters worse, she is thrown out of her apartment and life by a pro-government women's commando. At that moment, Adelaida's fight for survival begins. By chance, she ends up in the neighboring apartment, where she finds its owner dead. A second chance at life begins, but its price will be high. Can a person, placed in a critical situation, betray their personal ethical code, violate deeply rooted moral principles, and deny their humanity and compassion just to survive? Can they simply give up their own identity and easily become someone else? And is it possible to adopt a foreign past, memories, desires, and fears for the sake of survival, and then continue living without losing themselves? The novella represents a significant literary achievement by a young writer, who candidly narrates the raw and brutal reality of contemporary Venezuela.
