Beschreibung
The Black Tulip is one of the most famous novels by Alexandre Dumas. Unlike other works by the author, which are overflowing with crowds of characters, duels, and grand scenes, this is an intimate story inhabited by only a few characters. It has only three plot lines, which is very straightforward for Dumas: the political events in the Netherlands during the rise of William of Orange to power in 1672; the tulip mania that swept through the Netherlands at that time, and the desire to cultivate a black tulip; and last but not least, the love between a noble prisoner and the jailer's daughter, which ends well.
