In the early hours of 28 March 1942, two groups of Czechoslovak paratroopers, Out Distance and Zinc, were dropped into what was then Czechoslovak territory. Both operations were plagued by fatal misfortune from the outset, as the pilot landed them a considerable distance from their intended locations. Three paratroopers consequently followed three different paths to death: one fell in a courageous fight, another died on the gallows, and the third began informing and betraying others for money in an attempt to save his own life. The traitor’s life ultimately ended on the gallows of the free republic. This Czech-language book reveals a true story of great heroism, courage and betrayal.
