Beschreibung
The SAS (Special Air Service), airborne units within the British Air Force, was made up of a group of men capable not only of delivering significant blows to the enemy but essentially capable of anything. Their workplace was behind enemy lines, and their job was to make life as difficult as possible for the enemy. Lieutenant Harrison, the author of the book, was dropped with his group and armored jeeps over central France. With mounted Vickers machine guns, his men drove through the countryside, attacking small German and pro-German Russian units. Like shadows, they emerged under the cover of night, speeding through the city and firing at surprised German soldiers. They often triumphed over the taken-aback enemy, especially when he had no time to recover from the ambush. However, sometimes they themselves perished, particularly when they underestimated the enemy. The fearlessness of the SAS members bordered on recklessness; Lieutenant Goddard himself attacked the crews of two German rapid-fire guns with a Bren machine gun. Private Jemson, with one hand immobilized due to injury, occupied the German reserve so that his group could withdraw to safety in time...
