The Second World War was over, yet on a small Philippine island, Japanese soldier Hiró Onoda continued to fight against the chimera of his own mistaken beliefs. He could do no other - honor was the most fundamental criterion for his existence. For the Japanese, it has always meant fulfilling one's duties and being the person society wants him to be. Moreover, he underwent special training for guerrilla warfare in the army, was initiated into the tactics of disinformation, and even General Yoko-yama urged him to hold out at all costs because the island was a key location for the recapture of the Philippines. Isolated from the outside world and later considered dead, Hiró Onoda fulfills his military duties on the island for a full thirty years - during which he believes that the war is still ongoing.
