Beschreibung
After the terrible defeat in the spring of 1940, volunteers coming from England, all colonies, and those escaping from their humiliated and subjugated homeland formed the 1st Division of Free France (1. DFL) in the Middle East. Despite the seemingly hopeless situation and the risks posed to them and their families back home, its men broke traditional principles of discipline and took up arms against the enemy at a time when the defeat of Germany was merely an illusion. The author in the book outlines the combat journey of this division, which led from Eritrea through Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Italy back to their native France, and its difficult existence within the British army.
