The book "Stories Written by War" seeks to highlight ordinary human friendships that were born in the difficult times of World War II and often helped save lives, and which, unfortunately, seem to be fading away in today's over-technologized and fast-paced world. The stories told here do not aim to overly glorify, but to show ordinary human qualities such as courage, patriotism, wit, determination, heroism, inventiveness, fear, a sense of humor, or lack of discipline. It also does not shy away from pointing out the unpreparedness, bureaucracy, and stupidity of some orders, especially at the beginning of the war, or the unpredictable games of fate or simple human luck. They also do not hesitate to look at the caste system in the units and the differences in the lives of officers and enlisted men. The authors thus repay, at least a little, the moral debt they feel towards these people.
