Beschreibung
The true story of the illegitimate son of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and a Czech prostitute, who was born on February 17, 1900, in Vienna and died on August 11, 1986, in Košice, is like a walk through hell on earth. Josef Pollák experienced the horrors of World War I on the Piave, was tortured by the Gestapo during World War II, and ultimately escaped from a concentration camp, only to be denied by his own mother in Vienna and sentenced to death by shooting by the Russians. He survived, then was tortured by the StB with whipping along the railway line from Spišská Nová Ves to Poprad after 1948, only to be imprisoned as a political prisoner in Jáchymov. Finally, due to a low pension, he worked until the age of eighty as a receptionist at the Grand Hotel in Starý Smokovec in the High Tatras. The book is very cheerful, full of humor and wit, because Josef Pollák was a very cheerful person throughout his life, and perhaps that is why he managed to walk so lightly through this hell that was his life on earth for 86 years.
