Československá legie v Rusku I. (1914–1920) – kolektiv autorů (2013)

The expert chapters in Volume 1 are extensive studies on individual topics. They are accompanied by a total of 700 photographs with detailed captions, 26 tables with more than 450 rank insignias including all modifications, and a complete collection of 200 orders and decorations awarded to Russian legionnaires by the governments of 12 states. In the introductory essay "The Historical and Military Significance of the Czechoslovak Legions" (PhDr. Lt. Col. E. Stehlík), the contribution of the Czechoslovak legions to the establishment of the Czechoslovak state and their role in building the first republic's army is evaluated. The expert chapter "Czechoslovak Movement in Russia" (historian of the Russian Legion PhDr. F. Šteidler) is the first extensive work on the topic from 1921. The expert chapter "Photo Service in the Russian Legion" (E. Orián) discusses the origin and development of the photo service from its beginnings in the Czech Company to a sprawling organization within the entire army corps. The images, featuring army photographers and filmmakers at work in the field and in laboratories, bring us closer to the environment in which the extensive collection of photographs, now deposited in the Military Central Archive, was created, or partly in the Military Historical Institute.
