During World War II, Lidice entered the memory of humanity. The crime of mass murder committed here by the occupiers evoked the most human sympathy for this small mining village in Kladno. In many countries, acts of honest and peaceful people emerged, helping the fighting Czechoslovakia and other nations in the struggle against fascism. Only after the war was it possible to explain in more detail how the crime occurred and what fate the men, women, and children of Lidice had to endure. This book tells that story. The reader will browse through court records and become acquainted with documents that speak of the preparation and course of the tragedy. We will also get to know the brave lives of the miners from Lidice through their colleagues, and we will follow the difficult days of women in concentration camps. With special attention and empathy, we accept the stories of the abducted children of Lidice, whose lives traced incredibly complex life paths. The brotherly solidarity of nations fighting for freedom, who reached out to each other in remembrance of Lidice, regardless of their language or skin color, is another chapter in the life of Lidice, a chapter that we traverse across almost all continents.
