Beschreibung
This monograph examines the religious history of the First Czechoslovak Republic during the twenty years from the establishment of the state in 1918 to the tragic events of Munich in September 1938. The authors focus on changing conditions in the Czech lands, including complex Czech-German relations. They analyse the institutional structure of the Catholic Church, examine papal policy and Czechoslovakia’s relations with the Vatican, and explore popular religious practice, spiritual life and the development of the two other main Christian churches, the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, including their relationships with public life.
