Jak moc nás to posunulo? - Současná mediální čeština – Jílková Lucie (2025)

The texts collected in this book have been published since 2014 in Mediažurnál, a quarterly of the Syndicate of Journalists of the Czech Republic, in the Language Corner section. They offer a fresh and thematically diverse perspective on the language of our contemporary media, on both spoken and written communications. They remind us of speakers and writers who have significantly, or less significantly, enlivened the media space with their appearances, and sometimes even enriched Czech with new expressions or phrases that continue to be used. Attention is paid to the changing vocabulary, such as terms borrowed from English, as well as the overall sociolinguistic situation, such as English in the position of lingua franca, the presence of Slovak in Czech media texts, or the penetration of Ukrainian into the Czech public space. Stylistic questions are also addressed, such as the use of metaphors; further, the ways of conducting media dialogues, such as the method of questioning; or the issue of the sound aspect - the pronunciation of individual sounds and longer segments, including so-called hesitations.
