Beschreibung
The publication analyzes the verbal component of Czech folk songs recorded in five collections created at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, which, unlike later collections, are not yet marked by the romanticizing interventions of editors. It examines the textual structure of the songs, their stylistic qualities, and the linguistic means used, identifying structural properties that correspond to the key characteristics of folk songs, namely the maintenance of continuity on one hand and variability and changeability on the other. The work also presents for the first time a critical edition of two manuscript collections (by Antonín Francl and Václav Hanka the Elder). Since both collections contain only the texts of the songs, the edition is supplemented with comparative melodic material obtained from other song collections.
