How has Czech literature spread around the world in the last two hundred years? Which books, authors, and female authors have made their mark abroad? Is there something like an international canon of Czech literature? And if so, who constitutes it – and how does it change over time? The Atlas of Czech World Literature offers the first systematic overview of how Czech literature has been received in a foreign-language context from the early 19th century to the present. It is based on a unique database of literary translations and relies on tools from digital humanities – quantitative analysis and visualization. In addition to analytical commentary, the book provides rich visual material: maps, graphs, and other visual elements that reveal not only long-term trends but also surprising connections. The publication examines how Czech literature can be viewed in a global context and how many Czech literatures actually exist. What does "international success" mean, and how can it be measured in the case of a relatively small literature? And how have the patterns of literature dissemination changed as a result of the fall of the Iron Curtain?
