After Milan's arrival at the 77 Special Forces in the second half of 1954, my brother Ctirad and I decided to write down our memories of the journey through East Germany while they were still fresh in our minds. These memories, as presented in this book, are primarily based on Ctirad's perspective of the events following those described in Uckr. To protect those still living in the then Soviet bloc who helped us in our actions or on our journey, we changed or omitted the names of places or individuals. This original manuscript, Journey to the Northwest, became the foundation for the works of later researchers and writers on this topic who had access to sources of information that were unavailable to us at the time.
