The eighth volume of Jakub Deml’s writings brings together texts from 1928–1932, reflecting another stage in his development. After the combative anticlericalism of the early 1920s and his enthusiasm for Sokol in the middle of that decade, he undergoes a period of “Catholic repentance,” returning to traditionalist, even ultramontane positions. This shift is connected with his disappointment in Sokol, his renewed closeness to the milieu of Stará Říše, where Deml began his career, and his new involvement with the Dominican journal Na hlubinu. The volume contains texts in Czech and is accompanied by an afterword, an editorial note, translations of all foreign-language passages, explanations of historical and cultural references, a name index, and reproductions of illustrations and covers from the original editions.
