The involvement of women in the scientific world is linked to the accessibility of higher education for women, significantly changing their professional, family, and social situations. This fundamental change occurred in Central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century and was completed after World War I. The authors aim to present a comprehensive picture of female scientists in Czech and Czechoslovak society in the first half of the 20th century; to show the representation and work results of women in various scientific fields, the possibilities for professional growth and building a scientific career, which for women required balancing work and personal life; to present the reasons that led more women than men into certain fields. The book seeks answers to questions about what kind of knowledge women represent and produce, what their places were in scientific institutions, and how the exchange of scientific information took place.
