Beschreibung
The publication addresses the complex relationship between proletarian internationalism and the national sentiment of workers. While in theory it was supposed to be a conflicting relationship, in practice – as the author demonstrates based on numerous sources – both Czech and German workers gradually adopted a distinct national sentiment. A significant turning point was the victory of the Social Democrats in the elections to the Austrian Imperial Council in 1907, which greatly strengthened the social and national self-confidence of the workers. Soon after, the Austrian Social Democratic Party split along national lines, with the war contributing to further social and national radicalization of both Czech and German Social Democrats.
