Beschreibung
The medieval person was certainly a better observer and more skilled reader of the sky than we are, and was also more influenced by the perception of meteorological phenomena in terms of symbols and signs, many of which they found already in biblical texts. Medieval sources indicate that there were even those who attempted to explain specific phenomena in the atmosphere and their causes, or to predict the weather and related phenomena. This book, so to speak, looks over the shoulders of several such scholars from the Czech lands and, based on the materials they left behind, introduces the beginnings of meteorological research here. It thus builds on publications describing the history of meteorology in the Czech lands, whose authors have so far been exclusively natural scientists, and complements them based on the analysis of predominantly Latin manuscript texts.
