Beschreibung
The Internet language guide by a collective of authors from the Institute for the Czech Language of the Czech Academy of Sciences has been used by more than four million users since its release. Its explanatory section is now available in print in its third, expanded, and updated edition. The guide contains information about the Czech language, its spelling and phonetic structure, morphology, word formation, some syntactic phenomena, as well as chapters on the formal arrangement of documents and language etiquette. Compared to the Rules of Czech Spelling and grammars, many explanations in the guide are newer, more detailed, and more comprehensive, for example, in the areas of capitalization, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, or the declension of personal and geographical names. The explanations also mention discrepancies in the data contained in individual guides or differences between codification and standard language norms. In such cases, a commentary and recommended solutions are provided. A new section on Transcription and Transliteration has been added to the guide, chapters on word formation and language norms have been included, and the chapters concerning spelling have been significantly expanded. The book is intended for all those interested in Czech, including students, teachers, professional language users, and the general public.
