Beschreibung
The book contains interviews of the father of so-called absurd theater with Claude Bonnefoy, a literary critic of the magazine Quinzaine littéraire. Ionesco recalls the years of his idyllic childhood in the French countryside as well as his less idyllic university studies in Bucharest, where he styled himself as the eternal rebel, reminisces about his literary loves that influenced his later work, clarifies his cultural Romanian-French duality, provides interpretations of his most famous plays, in which dreams often play a key role, and exposes their possible metaphysical underpinnings. In the concluding section, titled Today and Tomorrow, he critically evaluates the contribution of the so-called new novel to the development of French prose and reflects on the future of dramatic literature.
