Beschreibung
The anthology of the works of Egon Erwin Kisch reminds us of a significant figure in interwar Czech-German journalism and literature. An author who, during his lifetime, enjoyed popularity in abundance, but after his death, his work became burdened by undesirable ideological patterns: Kisch was shamelessly appropriated by communist propaganda and transformed into one of its apostles. The aim of this anthology, primarily connected to Prague and featuring early and lesser-known texts by Kisch, is to relativize the established reading. It aims to show that Kisch was primarily a great journalist and writer, a skilled stylist, and undoubtedly an entertaining companion. His work continues to resonate even after a century, and even if it merely portrayed the era, documenting selected places, people, and events, his contribution to Czech, and by extension, European culture and society is undeniable.
