Beschreibung
A new Czech translation of the famous literary work. Satyricon (also written as Satyrikon, in the original Latin Satyricon) is an adventurous novel by the Roman writer Petronius. The main characters are the young men Encolpius (who narrates the story from his perspective) and Ascyltus, who compete for the young Giton. They are sometimes accompanied by the poet Eumolpus. Together, they travel through southern Italy and experience various adventures, often of an erotic nature. The text alternates between prose and verse. The novel was originally much longer, but only fragments have survived to this day, the longest of which is The Banquet of Trimalchio. Satyricon has inspired many other writers and filmmakers; the most famous is Fellini's film from 1969. ***** The proconsul and writer Titus Petronius was a personal friend of Emperor Nero. In 66 AD, he was accused of conspiracy and forced to commit suicide. At the end of the 19th century, he became the hero of a very successful novel by Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz, Quo vadis.
