The book presents a collection of studies presented at the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences during the Literary Studies Forum 2019, focusing on Czechs, Germans, and Protectorate literature. Individual guests addressed the institutionalization and ideologization of literature during the observed period (Steffen Höhne), the image of the Protectorate in contemporary literature (Peter Becher), the Protectorate works of the leading representative of German literature of the First Republic, Hans Watzlik (Václav Maidl), the fate of German-language publishing houses in the territory of the Protectorate (Murray G. Hall), and the management of Czech press under Nazi administration (Jan Cebe). The volume is introduced by two contextual studies on German literature in the Protectorate by the editors, one dedicated to literary life in context and the other presenting contemporary works of German-language authors in the Protectorate, as well as studies on the exile works of selected German-language authors during the observed period (Jan Budňák).
