Beschreibung
The book consists of three thematically interconnected essays, whose philosophical link is the materialist conception of spiritual reality. Kalivoda opens Marxism to various intellectual traditions, structuralism, psychoanalysis, and libertarianism, with his approach being dialogical, more precisely dialectical. From a Marxist perspective, he critiques the limits of the mentioned conceptions, while simultaneously enriching Marxism with their insights. This results in an extraordinarily original conception of Marxism as an open, non-dogmatic way of thinking that can not only analyze the contradictions of the present but also revive the somewhat fading idea of human emancipation today. The work was first published in 1968 and can be classified among the significant publications of H. Marcuse, T. W. Adorno, K. Kosík, J. Mukařovský, or V. Effenberger. The edition is supplemented by a follow-up study 'Emancipation and Utopia' from 1981, which deepens some aspects of Kalivoda's previous interpretation.
