Beschreibung
The monograph addresses the issue of the transition from exclusively handwritten forms of books to printed books and the questions of the parallel existence of these two media in the early period of printing in the Czech lands. Key themes include the forms and functions of handwritten books after the advent of printing, the development of literary texts and genres as a means of mass communication, changes in the artistic component of books, and also changes in the strategies of individual actors involved in the creation, distribution, and reception of this medium. Special attention is paid to the relationship with books in religiously minority but culturally distinct and uniquely profiled groups of inhabitants of the Czech lands (such as Jews, the Unity of Brethren, etc.).
