Beschreibung
The monograph discusses several fundamental questions of modern evolutionary biology in an accessible manner. It particularly focuses on the issue of evolvability and demonstrates that even the ability to evolve is subject to evolution. As noted by the 'domestic' theory of frozen evolution, the evolution of evolvability is influenced by a number of interesting processes, including the accumulation of immutable elements. The ambiguous nature of these processes may explain the (non)obvious fact that we encounter such diverse products of biological evolution on Earth.
