Beschreibung
Genetic variability is a key player in the fields of evolution, selection, and the very existence of species. This book addresses the issue of genetic variability, focusing on one of the most significant deciduous trees in Europe, the European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). The review section provides a detailed description of the European beech from the perspective of morphology and ecology, but also pays attention to its distribution and other characteristics. The second part of the book contains a complete methodological procedure for researching genetic variability, which was conducted on selected autochthonous populations of the European beech in the Czech Republic using microsatellite markers (SSRs). The procedure is supplemented by an optimized laboratory protocol, and the research findings are discussed in relation to existing similar studies on this topic.
