Beschreibung
The first volume of a four-part collective publication dedicated to the history of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (ČSAV) covers the first decade of its existence, during which Zdeněk Nejedlý was at its helm. It also describes the circumstances surrounding the establishment of this key institution of science in the second half of the 20th century. The publication examines the development of the entire institution, as well as the changes in the membership and leadership of the ČSAV in a broad political and social context. It reflects on the development of selected important scientific workplaces and some joint workplaces and facilities. Great attention is paid to the issue of international contacts, which are always exceptionally important for science, and it also includes profiles of the most significant personalities in the leadership of the then ČSAV. The book is accompanied by numerous illustrations and extensive appendices, primarily a list of all members and scientific workplaces of the ČSAV from 1952 to 1962.
