Beschreibung
This book will take you into the environment of Northern Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. During that time, more than a dozen diplomatic representatives of the Austrian Habsburgs traveled to the distant 'land of the midnight sun,' often accompanied by a large retinue of servants, noble companions, clergy, agents, and family members. Central Europeans had a specific relationship with the Kingdom of Sweden in many respects – it was traditionally among their armed enemies, and the mutual antagonism also stemmed from differing faiths and mental differences. Therefore, the approach that diplomats chose for the success of their missions had to be equally specific. The strategies and actions of members of the imperial embassy abroad changed over time, and the experiences of different generations often differed diametrically. Thus, a coherent picture of the Kingdom of Sweden emerges before the readers from the perspective of significantly critical foreign visitors.
