The monograph is dedicated to the issue of complimenting in Czech. It is based on a detailed analysis of recordings of private informal communication among family members and friends. Based on the analysis of more than seventy compliment sequences, the communicative functions of compliments as well as their lexical, morphological, and syntactic means are described, and non-verbal means are also presented. Since the publication examines the issue in the context of dialogic communication, the analysis of responses to compliments also finds its place within it.
