Beschreibung
Can mathematics somehow influence art? The usual answer to this question is "of course not." A reliable piece of evidence for this claim seems to be the numerous interviews with writers, actors, painters, and other artists, in which mathematics reliably reigns among the bogeymen and unpopular disciplines when recalling school years. The book "Not Far from Infinity" seeks to go against this mainstream. Its aim is, on the contrary, to show mathematics as a source of inspiration for art, at least for the literary genre. The author chose the form of short stories with a witty punchline and comprehensible commentary. He attempts to present selected areas of mathematics and physics in a simple and understandable way to readers completely unacquainted with secondary or higher education in these fields.
