The literary guide takes readers through the Czech metropolis of the 1920s and 1930s, when jazz echoed through Prague and neon lights illuminated the night. It leads them to the places where Devětsil was founded, to cafes and bars where poets and prose writers met with theorists, visual artists, and architects. Doors to the editorial offices of magazines and publishing houses, exhibition halls, and artists' studios will open before the readers. They will glimpse into the long-gone theater halls where the Liberated Theater performed. With the night walkers, they will cross bridges over the Vltava River and, with the dawn, enjoy the greenery of parks amidst the urban gray. They will not miss the city of the insane, the Pankrác prison, or the river baths in Zbraslav. The commentary is always supplemented by a microprobe connected to a literary personality, event, or work. Each entry is complemented by quotes from memoirs, correspondence, and literary excerpts. Each entry also includes a period or contemporary photograph of the place, reproductions of artworks, book covers, illustrations, caricatures, or period advertisements.
