The publication Velvet in the Theater by Zlín journalist Jakub Malovaný meticulously chronicles the Velvet Revolution in Zlín, then Gottwaldov, literally day by day. The story is composed of interviews with selected respondents – witnesses, dissidents, and especially theater artists, as well as members of the strike committee and the Civic Forum. The book also includes a number of authentic documents and period materials that richly illustrate the narrative. From the theater to the square and back again, this could briefly describe the setting of this dramatic tale. The extended version of the book Velvet in the Theater also includes an extensive photo gallery, a separate chapter reflecting changes in dramaturgy, artistic and ideological direction of the theater, as well as a fresh perspective on other symbolic elements without which Zlín would not be the city we know, namely the social importance of the Baťa company or the equally inspiring story of the famous travelers Hanzelka and Zikmund.
