VARY 25 – Caban Michal (2021)

A comprehensive book VARY 25 is being published. On 583 pages, it brings a return to the past 25 years of the Karlovy Vary festival. Through 1172 photographs, 58 videos, and 3.5 kilograms of pure weight, readers can experience unforgettable moments facilitated by the work of the Caban brothers. It offers experiences, stories, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and a large amount of previously unpublished unique material that allows for a non-traditional view of the preparations and course of the Karlovy Vary festival. "If someone were to ask what such a book is for, we are aware that we are primarily making this book for ourselves and for those who are interested. We do not think that everyone likes our work or is interested in it, but you will not find any debate or critical words on this topic in the publication. Nor do we think that without us, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival would not exist. We know that it is primarily about films, film stars, and audiences. And the festival is primarily created by its program and people... This book captures the period of the festival when we had the honor of being part of it," writes Šimon Caban in the introduction.
