This German-language coursebook is aimed at teenagers and young adults in Germany and abroad without prior knowledge of German. It leads to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference and prepares learners for the Zertifikat Deutsch examination and other B1 examinations. Ideen offers teaching material designed for the particular challenges of this age group, with the structure of the units, text selection, exercise types, illustrations and layout adapted to their needs. It uses topics that are initially far removed from teenagers’ everyday reality, often involving unusual content, extremes, realistic details and admired qualities such as courage, ingenuity, creativity and love, before connecting them with the learners’ own experiences and important teaching content. The course follows a task-based, communicative approach integrating language skills and subskills. Vocabulary and grammar are developed systematically through clear instructions and a wide range of carefully designed exercises.
