Beschreibung
Giants appear in most of humanity’s myths and legends. The Titans of Greek mythology were giants who fought their own children, the gods of Olympus. Atlas, Cronos and Prometheus remain part of the popular imagination, while the stories of these elder gods offer fascinating reading. Other cultures have their own giant legends, from the Chinese Pangu, who separated Heaven from Earth and whose body became the world’s mountains and valleys, to the Viking Joetnar giants, constantly at war with Odin and his Asgardians. In Ireland, the Fomorians were a powerful race of invaders who fought their predecessors, the Thuatha de Danaan. Japan has the Oni, the Kuba people of Africa tell of the creator Mbombo, and even Grendell from Beowulf is regarded by some as a giant. This collection brings together myths, folklore and epic tales for modern readers, highlighting the roots of suspense, supernatural, science-fiction and mystery stories.
