This book offers, for the most part, a previously unexplored account of the Czech anti-system far right and its development over more than a century. The first part examines the rejection by Czech radical conservatism, fascism and National Socialism of the democratic modernization of Czech society during the interwar period, as well as the subsequent political debacle of these movements after the Munich Agreement of 1938 and during the Second World War. The second part defines the currents, activities and stories of leading politicians of the contemporary Czech far right. It demonstrates the continuity of the Czech far right with the past while also showing how it has adapted its anti-system and racial concepts to the conditions and conflicts of the globalized liberal democracy of the 21st century. An increasingly pronounced shift is taking place from the former contentious nationalist isolation toward transnational far-right solidarity and cooperation in the spirit of so-called white Europeanism. The book is intended not only for specialists in fields such as contemporary history, modern political science and security studies, but also for teachers and students who find adequate specialist literature on the subject lacking. It may also offer valuable insight to state and public administration employees, politicians, journalists and anyone interested in the concrete and pressing issues of democracy, authoritarian systems and totalitarian regimes.
