In London in June 2019, Maggie is thirty, pregnant and broke. Facing a return to the hometown she fought to escape, she wonders whether having a baby with her boyfriend Ed will be the last spontaneous act of her life, while Ed keeps secret dreams of his own. Phil hates his office job and lives for the weekend as he falls for his housemate Keith, who already has a boyfriend. Phil’s mother Rosaleen is tired of feeling like a side character in her own life; recently diagnosed with cancer, she is travelling to London to tell Phil, if she can ever reach him. As Saturday night approaches in a city on the brink of political upheaval, their lives are about to change forever. During the hottest summer on record, the weekend begins.
