The unsuccessful forty-year-old writer Fausto leaves Milan after breaking up with his long-term partner and finds refuge in the mountain village of Fontana Fredda. Unexpectedly, he gets a job as a cook in a small restaurant popular with locals and skiers, run by the warm-hearted Babette. She too escaped the city years ago and brought a bit of friendliness to the village. In addition to her, Fausto befriends the eccentric snowplow driver Santorso and grows close to a young waitress Silvia, who dreams of working in a hut on the glacier. However, at the end of the ski season, the restaurant closes, and each of the heroes will have to find out if happiness truly awaits them in Fontana Fredda. In his new novel, Paolo Cognetti, inspired by Hokusai's 36 Views of Mount Fuji, paints pictures of the everyday life of mountain inhabitants, in which, along with the changing seasons, he captures the transformation of human desires and dreams. Dreams that become an inseparable part of the mountain landscape, over which the mountains keep a silent watch.
