Driving a car, being involved in politics, having a bank account… we consider all of this normal today, but a hundred and fifty years ago, women could only dream of such things. Who do they owe for turning dreams into reality? A host of heroines who paved the way for them. And there were many! Even in the Czech lands, they were not in short supply. We might immediately think of Božena Němcová, Marie Terezie, or Milada Horáková. But what about Johana of Rožmitál, Bertha von Suttner, or Marie Schmolková? Never heard of them? That’s exactly why this book was created! Doctors, writers, politicians, nuns, entrepreneurs, rulers, and athletes come to life in the captivating storytelling of Kateřina Tučková and her collaborators, as well as in the original portraits by students from Plzeň's 'Sutnarka'. Often, their stories take your breath away. And thanks to the context in which the author of the entire project, Renáta Fučíková, places their fates, we see a coherent picture of what and how women had to fight for, so they could live according to their own visions today.
