Štěpán is eleven, and his whole world depends on adults. But what does he do when his dad seems to have gone crazy — he moved out, grew a beard, and his ankles peek out from his pants. Dad's new girlfriend doesn't care much for Štěpán; he feels unnecessary. His mom sighs, saves on everything, and it seems she's not well. Therefore, Štěpán wishes for one thing above all — to grow up as quickly as possible and be self-sufficient. Zuzana Dostálová wrote a novel about adolescence and adulthood, about loneliness and independence. The hero's life is followed over several years, and the narrative does not leave it solely to him.
