The magician Pasparte, owner of a caravan, a few tricks, and a projector, dreams of one day opening the first permanent Czech cinema, where he will screen only Czech films. However, he lacks the necessary capital to realize his dream, so for now, he travels to remote villages, enticing their inhabitants with a remarkable show. Along the way, he encounters a dying colleague who entrusts him not only with all his film reels but also with his very attractive daughter, Aloisie. Pasparte arrives in Prague with the girl, where Aloisie becomes the center of attention for all the men around. This wouldn't be so bad, but the worse part is that Pasparte's landlady, Evženie, is also fiercely jealous of the beauty. Ultimately, Pasparte offers the lovely ward as a housekeeper to the single photographer Jan Kolenatý, who desires only one thing - to film living pictures of old Prague. However, the magician has other plans for the young man. He wants him as a partner in his future venture. Yet that remains just a big dream, as he has not yet secured the necessary funds. Moreover, there is Mrs. Evženie, who strictly refuses any novelties, except for those that Pasparte could compensate by marrying her. Nevertheless, the magician submits an application for a concession for a permanent cinema to the city hall and begins...
