This political thriller is based on a true event. During a military coup in South America, a young American writer and filmmaker, Charles Horman (John Shea), goes missing. Charles's father (Jack Lemmon), a prominent businessman from New York, Ed Horman, rushes to help Charles's wife Beth (Sissy Spacek), who is desperately trying to find her missing husband. Their search goes in circles, leads to dead ends, and encounters walls of lies and false hopes from both local and American authorities. They set aside their long-standing disagreements and do not relent in their feverish effort until a painful, devastating conclusion.
